विश्व का पहला अक्षय ऊर्जा संचालित हवाई अड्डा

 कोचीन इंटरनेशनल एयरपोर्ट लिमिटेड (सीआईएएल) ने विश्व के पहले सौर ऊर्जा संचालित हवाई अड्डे का निर्माण करके ऊर्जा की कमी के अपने नुकसान को सफलतापूर्वक लाभ में बदल दिया है। सीआईएएल ने 2013 के आरंभ में आगमन टर्मिनल ब्लॉक की छत पर 100 किलोवॉट पॉवर (केडब्लूपी) का सौर फोटोवोल्टिक (पीवी) संयंत्र स्थापित करके सौर पीवी क्षेत्र में कदम रखा। इसके बाद, एक मेगावॉट पॉवर (एमडब्ल्यूपी) सौर पीवी संयंत्र आंशिक रूप से छत के ऊपर और आंशिक रूप से विमान रख-रखाव हैंगर सुविधा इमारत में जमीन पर स्थापित किया गया है। उपर्युक्त संयंत्रों की सफलता से प्रेरित होकर सीआईएएल ने 2015 में बड़े पैमाने पर 12 एमडब्ल्यूपी सौर पीवी संयंत्र स्थापित करने का निर्णय लिया। आज सीआईएएल के पास 50 एमडब्ल्यूपी की संस्थापित सौर ऊर्जा क्षमता है। सीआईएएल के सौर ऊर्जा संयंत्र एक दिन में दो लाख यूनिट बिजली पैदा करते हैं जबकि हवाई अड्डे में बिजली की दैनिक खपत लगभग 1.6 लाख यूनिट है और इस तरह यह हवाई अड्डा बिजली उत्पादन और उपभोग की सुखद स्थिति में है।

World's first renewable energy powered airport

  Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has successfully turned its energy deficit disadvantage into advantage by building the world's first solar powered airport. CIAL forayed into the Solar PV sector in early 2013 by installing a 100 kilowatt power (KWP) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) plant on the roof of the Arrival Terminal Block. Subsequently, a one megawatt power (MWP) solar PV plant has been installed partly on the roof and partly on the ground in the aircraft maintenance hangar facility building. Inspired by the success of the above plants, CIAL decided to set up a large scale 12 MWp Solar PV plant in 2015. Today CIAL has an installed solar power capacity of 50 MWp. CIAL's solar power plants generate two lakh units of electricity a day while the daily consumption of electricity at the airport is around 1.6 lakh units and thus the airport is in a happy state of power generation and consumption.
