Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju released the first edition of the Dogri version of the Constitution of India at the University of Jammu.
Speaking during the event, the minister described the translated document as very important in providing justice to the common people. He said that for a common man to get justice, it is necessary to understand the law and it cannot be done better than codifying it in one's mother tongue.
He also said that though the work has been completed a little late after the inclusion of Dogri language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution in 2003, there should be no further delay in furthering its influence among the people. He appreciated the University for providing necessary support to the translators for this noble cause.
Regarding the development regarding making the process of justice delivery easier and cheaper, he revealed that the government is digitizing legal terminology of about 65000 words to create a core vocabulary for the understanding of all citizens. He also informed that Rs 9000 crore for infrastructure upgrade in lower judiciary and Rs 7000 crore for e-courts project are aimed at making the process of justice delivery easily accessible and freely available. The time is not far when our courts will become completely paperless after the completion of the third phase of the e-courts project. He said that this project has helped a lot in the functioning of the courts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He pointed out technology as a solution to reduce the pendency of cases in our courts. He said that he was pained to see that around 5 crore cases were still pending for their final disposal. Technology can come to our rescue, extending the benches of the Supreme Court, High Courts or even lower courts beyond the four walls of their premises.
The Minister highly appreciated the young lawyers who contribute in furthering the agenda of the National Legal Services Authority in providing free justice to the people. He said that the concept of freebies is a wonderful cause and through this program the elite should also contribute in expanding their services for the larger good of the public.
