India's first 'Water Metro Rail Service' launched

भारत की पहली 'वाटर मेट्रो रेल सेवा' का शुभारंभ 

• कोच्चि व आस-पास के दस द्वीपों के बीच शुरू की गई यह रेल सेवा पहले चरण में कोच्चि वाटर मेट्रो हाई कोर्ट-वाइपिन टर्मिनल और विट्टिला-कक्कनाड टर्मिनल के बीच शुरू होगी.
• प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने 25 अप्रैल  को केरल में भारत की पहली 'वाटर मेट्रो रेल सेवा' का लोकार्पण किया।
•  कोच्चि व आस- पास के दस द्वीपों के बीच शुरू हो रही सेवा ऐसे शहरों के लिए बेहद उपयोगी मानी जा रही है, जहां पारंपरिक मेट्रो रेल में कई बाधाएं हैं। 
• करीब 1,136 करोड़ रुपये की परियोजना को केरल के लिए ड्रीम प्रोजेक्ट कहा जा रहा है। 
• यह शहर में सार्वजनिक परिवहन व पर्यटन के जरिये आर्थिक गतिविधियों को बढ़ावा दे सकेगा। 
• मेट्रो ट्रेन की तरह यह पूरी तरह वातानुकूलित होंगी और रोजाना 15 मिनट के अंतराल पर 12 घंटे तक सेवाएं देंगी। अभी शुरुआत में 23 नावें व 14 टर्मिनल हैं। वहीं, प्रत्येक मेट्रो में 50 से 100 यात्री बैठ सकते हैं। 
•  इस वाटर परियोजना की कुल लागत 1,136.83 करोड़ रुपये है।
•  वाटर मेट्रो के प्रोजेक्ट में केरल सरकार द्वारा 100 करोड़ और बाकि जर्मन फंडिंग एजेंसी केएफडब्ल्यू के द्वारा पैसा लगाया गया है। इसमें एक वाटर मेट्रो के लिए 7 करोड़ रुपये की लागत आई है। वहीं, प्रत्येक मेट्रो में 50 से 100 यात्री बैठ सकते हैं। 
• वाटर मेट्रो में विकलांगों के लिए रैंप की सुविधा, माताओं के लिए फीडिंग चैंबर और मोबाइल रिचार्ज की सुविधा होगी। वाटर मेट्रो आठ समुद्री मील प्रति घंटे की रफ्तार से चलेगी। हैरानी की बात तो यह है कि वाटर है मेट्रो लॉ टाइड और हाई टाइड में भी समान स्तर पर रहेगी। 
•  वाटर मेट्रो में ऑटोमेटिक बोट लोकेटिंग सिस्टम और पैंसेजर कंट्रोल सिस्टम होगा। इस मेट्रो में प्रदूषण न फैलाने वाली बैटरी का उपयोग किया गया है। इससे कोच्चि बैकवाटर में पर्यटन क्षेत्र को भी बढ़ावा मिलेगा और ट्रैफिक की झंझटों से मुक्ति भी। 
• कोच्चि जल मेट्रो परियोजना से एक लाख से अधिक द्वीपवासियों को लाभ होगा।

• This train service, started between Kochi and ten nearby islands, will start in the first phase between Kochi Water Metro High Court-Vypin Terminal and Vittila-Kakkanad Terminal.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first 'Water Metro Rail Service' in Kerala on 25 April.
•   The service starting between Kochi and ten nearby islands is considered very useful for such cities, where there are many obstacles in the traditional metro rail.
• The Rs 1,136 crore project is being touted as a dream project for Kerala.
• It will be able to promote economic activities in the city through public transport and tourism.
• It will be fully air-conditioned like a metro train and will run daily for 12 hours at an interval of 15 minutes. Right now there are 23 boats and 14 terminals in the beginning. At the same time, 50 to 100 passengers can sit in each metro.
•   The total cost of this water project is Rs 1,136.83 crore.
•   100 crore has been invested by the Kerala government in the water metro project and the rest by the German funding agency KfW. In this, a cost of Rs 7 crore has been incurred for a water metro. At the same time, 50 to 100 passengers can sit in each metro.
• The water metro will have ramp facilities for the disabled, feeding chambers for mothers and mobile recharge facilities. The water metro will run at a speed of eight knots per hour. Surprisingly, the water will remain at the same level during low tide and high tide as well.
•   The water metro will have an automatic boat locating system and a passenger control system. Non-polluting batteries have been used in this metro. This will also give a boost to the tourism sector in the Kochi backwaters and also relieve traffic snarls.
• The Kochi Water Metro Project will benefit over one lakh islanders.
