  • State Animal: Black Buck

Black buck is a common name for an antelope found mainly in India but with other small populations in Pakistan and Nepal. The black buck has ringed horns that have a moderate spiral twist of three to four turns and are upto 70 cm (28 in) long. The adult male stands about 80 cm (about 32 in) at the shoulder and weighs 32 to 43 kg (71 to 95 lb). The body's upper parts are black, the under parts and a ring around the eyes are white. The light-brown female is usually hornless. Males are dark brown. On 15th March, 1989, the State Government of Punjab declared black buck as state animal of Punjab.

  •  State Bird: Northern Goshawk

The Northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) is a medium-large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. The goshawk is often considered a true hawk. It is a raptor with short, broad wings and a long tail. It is blue grey above and barred grey or white below, but Asian subspecies in particular range from nearly white overall to nearly black above. On 15th March, 1989, the Punjab Government notified it as the state bird.

  • State Tree: Indian Rosewood

Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia sissoo) is a deciduous rosewood tree, also known as sisu or sheesham. It is the state tree of Punjab state. Sheesham is best known internationally as a premier timber species of the rosewood genus, but is also used as fuelwood and for shade and shelter. With its multiple products and tolerance of light, frosts and long dry seasons, this species deserves greater consideration for tree farming, reforestation and agro forestry applications. It has been declared as state tree of Punjab on 15th March, 1989.

  • Sikh Flag :Nishan Sahib

The Nishan Sahib is a Sikh holy triangular flag made of cotton or silk cloth with a tassel at its end. The word, nishan means symbol, and the flag is hoisted on a tall flagpole, outside most Gurdwaras. The flagpole itself covered with fabric, ends with a two-edged dagger (Khanda) on top. The emblem on the flag is also known as Khanda, which depicts a double-edged sword called a Khanda in the centre, a chakkar which is circular, flanked by two single-edged swords, or kirpans.
