World's first Asian King Vulture Conservation Center built in Maharajganj


The world's first Jatayu Asiatic King Vulture Conservation and Breeding Center was established at Maharajganj, Gorakhpur in an area of 1.5 hectares. This conservation and breeding center has been established for the conservation of the fast-extinct species of vultures, which is the first in the world.

                   The world's first Jatayu Asian King Vulture Conservation and Breeding Center was established in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh to preserve the fast-extinct species of vultures. Jayati Conservation and Breeding Center has been established in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh. This is the world's first Jatayu Asian King Vulture Conservation Center.

Jatayu Conservation Center has been established mainly for the conservation of vultures. The work of Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Center Maharajganj has been completed. Soon this conservation and breeding center will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Asiatic King Vulture is a rapidly disappearing species. It is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. This Act prohibits any person from willfully breaking, damaging, uprooting, collecting, selling or transferring any plant (living or dead) from a forest area or any such area as may be identified by the Central Government.

Area of Jatayu Vulture Conservation and Breeding Center 

Jatayu Vulture and Breeding Center is an area of 1.5 hectare under Gorakhpur forest area. It has been built at a cost of around Rs 15 crore. This conservation and breeding center has been established for the protection of this species of vulture which is becoming extinct. 


Facilities available in Jatayu Vulture Conservation and Breeding Center

 Various cages have been made for vultures in this conservation center. A hospital for vultures has also been set up so that sick vultures can be treated at the earliest. A nursery has been set up for two of the juveniles so that they can learn the way of life of their caste with the help of the instructor. A food training center has been set up inside the conservation center where food for vultures will be prepared and tested thoroughly. An incubation center will also be inside the conservation area where vulture eggs will be hatched artificially.


The vulture is an endangered species under the International Union for Conservation of Nature

. The vulture has been declared an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Conservation centers have been set up for vultures so that the species that is going extinct soon can be preserved and saved for the future. Under this project, a target has been set to preserve about 40 species of warts in 15 years.


Species of Asia King Vulture are getting extinct year after year

 The Asian King Vulture is a bird mainly found in North India. In the year 2004, this species of vulture was classified as almost extinct by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. In 2007, it was listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.


Reasons for the extinction of the Asian King Vulture 

The Asiatic king vulture species is slowly disappearing due to the use of diclofenac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, in animal medicine. For the protection of these species, the government will have to put a stop to such used drugs as soon as possible.


Asia King Vulture Breeding Center 

The breeding work of vultures starts in the months of March and April. During this, male vultures will not be left in the open and will be sent to dense forest. Once the breeding season is over, a male vulture will be brought back to the Jatayu Vulture Conservation Centre. High arrangements have been made for proper breeding of vultures.
